JA Partners Inspire Students and Support Business Values by Sponsoring Curriculum

Students participate in the JA STEM Job Shadow program at ViaWest

A high school sophomore from Denver Public Schools enters a corporate office for the first time. She sees how professionals dress and interact, and she has the opportunity to learn what they do, why they like it, and what education they needed to get there.  Another student participates in a one-hour discussion with a corporate CEO and hears about the ethical dilemmas and problems that she faces in her job every day. The student reflects on his own moral compass and considers the role that ethics play in business and in daily life.

“Our partners not only provide the funding needed to deliver our programs, they also lend their expertise and insights into helping us develop curriculum that is relevant and engaging for kids today,” said Kristi Shaffer, JA executive vice president. “Sponsoring specific programs also allows companies to align with topics and themes that are central to their own corporate values and priorities, including entrepreneurial thinking and ethical business practices.”

JA is launching two new student initiatives that provide opportunities for companies to support high school students. JA Creativity at Work is a collaboration with CherryArts and takes an inside look at the creative economy and careers in the arts. The program is being piloted this spring at Kent Denver, North High School and Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy. JA is seeking a corporate partner to help fully launch the program during the 2018/2019 school year.

JA is also seeking support to underwrite high school girls to attend the Women Inspiring Leadership Development Summit on April 26.  JA has partnered with the Women’s Council and the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder to inspire high school girls to learn about themselves and the business world by attending the summit.
